Excerpt From Book
The Mystery that lies hidden in the Hebrew Scriptures began as The Teaching of Moses. Through Moses, God revealed the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the sons of Israel some thirty-five hundred years ago. Although Moses told the sons of Israel to hand down their understanding of The Teaching to their children as “The Way of the Lord,” they failed to do that.17 Consequently, they soon lost an accurate understanding of what Moses had taught them, and thus the Truth of The Teaching of Moses became hidden in the written account he left them. That is how The Teaching of Moses became The Mystery of Scripture. Men, not God, turned Moses’ understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into a message hidden in the Pentateuch—that is, the first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures that Moses wrote.
What was God to do after the sons of Israel abandoned The Teaching of Moses? Explain it over and over again to every subsequent generation? Certainly not! But to His credit, He tried. He repeatedly revealed The Teaching of Moses to the Prophets of Israel, and sent them one right after the other to explain it to the sons of Israel. But the people would not listen to The Teaching of the Prophets. Therefore, God told His Prophets to write down an explanation of The Teaching of Moses, but to speak in terms of an obscure parabolic imagery that even the most learned people of their own day could not understand! Eventually, He quit sending His Prophets altogether, leaving only the Hebrew Scriptures as cryptic testimony against a people who adamantly refused to listen to and believe the Truth.
Mankind once again attained an understanding of The Mystery of Scripture through The Teaching of Jesus Christ. Like Moses, who had taught the sons of Israel the meaning of the parabolic imagery of The Teaching Jesus taught His disciples what Moses and the Prophets meant by what they wrote. After His Resurrection, He continued to explain The Teaching to them over a period of forty days, just as God had explained it to Moses on the Mountain of God.18 Finally, Jesus told His disciples to hand down The Teaching to the next generation exactly as they had received it from Him:
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
